With National Age Swimming 2025 occuring right now, we are seeing many talented athletes giving it their all, in the pool and out!
At this level, most of these swimmers have an general understanding of performance nutrition. They have knowledge of fuel sources, recovery, sleep and supplementation to a generalised degree.
BUT not every athlete is doing the below three things.
This is where my style of nutrition coaching differs from the rest,
I look at the WHOLE picture. Being a Dryland coach, strength and conditioning coach and sports Nutritionist, but most importantly a parent of swim athletes.
These 3 tips below could drastically improve your swimmers performance.
1. Feel the water - On days you don’t have any events - still go to the pool and swim - doesn’t need to be long . Its about Mind body connection and feeling the water - so you don’t get tight or feel out of whack - it’s not about getting faster now - its about feeling the water!
2. Race plan - Talk to your coach know how you are going to race - how hard you’ll go out or come home depending on your strengths - what time you need to be turning. on what lap.
Do you need to gun hard here or just cruise to make the finals.
3. Visualisation - see yourself where you want to be - swimming over the top of your best competitor or putting the burners on for a sprint finish - see yourself on podium or lining up in the finals . Have it on the screens you look at, in your journals and in your mind. Believe it,
Don't under-estimate the power of visualisation.
If you are looking at bettering your athletes performance, please book in a free discovery 15 min tele consult here where we can work out how we are going to take your athlete to their full potential.
All the best for the rest of the races!
